Program

Babies grow and change dramatically during their first 18 months. Our program is geared towards both the encouragement and development of each child at his or her own rate.

You will be leaving your infant in a safe, comfortable environment, designed to stimulate and amuse them during all levels of their development. This is communicated daily with reports to the parents, and similar information is collected from parents during drop off in the morning. This allows infant teachers to provide a consistent nurturing environment.

Your child will graduate to the Toddler program at 18 months, or when developmentally ready, as determined by his/her educators in consultation with our Supervisor. We begin preparation for this in various ways; we encourage the use of child sized tables and chairs for lunch and activities, push toys and balance bars for children who are showing an interest in walking, as well as a variety of gross motor toys and outdoor play, followed by plenty of visits with toddler teachers and children to make the move more comfortable. We work meticulously to ensure a smooth transition for your child.

Children in this age group are learning to develop control over their bodies and themselves. A consistent, predictable routine that includes songs and story time, creative exploration, and play opportunities allows them to learn these skills and build their self-confidence. At the same time, they are having fun in a relaxing, supportive environment.

Our toddler day care program is interactive and fun with carefully considered activities and based on the children’s needs. Toys and equipment and the room design is planned to aid in the child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Music and movement, dramatic play, songs, stories, daily indoor and outdoor physical activity, open-ended art materials, nutritious hot meals and snacks, and safety are very important to us at First Steps.

We offer full-time and part-time Toddler day care programs and are licensed under the Ministry of Education. Our Registered Early Childhood Educators work together to make sure that we provide the most exciting, energetic and fun learning environment for your child.

The transition from the toddler to preschool group happens gradually and thoughtfully. As children enter this new developmental phase, they are ready for new challenges. Activities are expanded to reflect this stage and the child’s growing need for independence. Our preschool day care program is an interactive and fun program, which is based on the needs and interests of the children. The emergent curriculum philosophy and the environment itself is viewed as a teacher, inviting children into action and guiding them into individual and small group play. This child care environment is designed to foster creativity, promote wonder and encourage a child’s natural curiosity and desire to explore and learn.

Our Registered Early Childhood Educators work together to ensure there is a wide range of materials and activities available in order to allow children to make their own choices. Children will learn the social and cognitive skills necessary for success and readiness to move on to kindergarten programs in fun and exciting, safe environment.

We offer full-time and part-time programs for Preschool children.
